Fitzwater Family Trip

The plan

Six of us, one house, a full week.

We've got a five-bedroom beach house in Vega Alta with a pool, a pickleball court, and the Atlantic out front, and seven nights to use it.

The shape of the trip is simple. Bright mornings out exploring, warm afternoons back at the house, and most dinners cooked in around the patio with a few nights out worth dressing up for. Everything that's flexible, where we eat and what we do on the open afternoons, goes to the six of us on the Vote page.

Mornings out, afternoons in

The rhythm of the week

The days front-load activity into the cool, clear mornings and leave the rainy afternoons for the pool and the patio. That single choice shapes everything.

The anchors

Two days hold the week together.

Monday we head into El Yunque, the only tropical rainforest in the U.S. forest system, for waterfalls and a zipline through the canopy. Wednesday we drive into Old San Juan for El Morro, the centuries-old clifftop fortress, and a long wander through the blue-cobblestone streets. Everything between and around them stays loose: beach mornings, a cliff-top cave, a hidden cove, and a farewell sushi dinner on the ocean at the Ritz Reserve next door.

Wednesday

Old San Juan & El Morro

A clifftop fortress, an esplanade made for kites, and a whole afternoon in the old city.

The one thing to know

Mornings are for moving, afternoons are for the pool, and the rain that rolls through most afternoons is exactly why the week is built this way. Pack a swimsuit, closed shoes for the rainforest, and a sense of humor about the weather.
